because i keep on complaining how my life in japan have been a routine for the longest time, yesterday i tried, with my friend tim, to do things/ try things weve never done before. its the places we usually see, but never had the chance to try. nothing out of the ordinary, but it just made me see that i havent done everything yet here in tokyo. its a refreshing escape from my reality. what i did yesterday?
1. for the first time, i watched two movies in one day.
2. for the first time, i tried Muji Cafe in Shinjuku. (i call it cibo in tokyo)
3. for the first time, i ate at the turo-turo near the eki. (ramen and oden)
4. for the first time, i finished one bowl of FATTY ramen. was chilly kasi outside!
5. for the first time, i lined up with all the Japanese to eat krispy kreme. (just for the sake of trying to line up with them!)haha
6. for the first time, i ate two HIGH CALORIE DONUTS in one day
7. for the first time, i wasnt in a hurry to go home. lapit lang kasi.
8. for the first time, i shopped for Rolex, and was OFFERED to try them on! (window shopping lang)
9. for the first time, i saw the lights in shinjuku this year. its beautiful!
10. for the first time, i didnt think of calories and money (UNTIL end of day.)haha

call me mababaw but these things made me happy today hehe.super.

whats next on my list?
come to think of it, after january, i have 8 weeks left and im bye japan forever!
1. try to ride a ferrys wheel (or is it ferris?being in japan makes me bobo in spelling)
2. ride a bike to school
3. ice skating
4. snow boarding
5. eat sushi at tsukiji
6. eat takoyaki in osaka
7. have eyelash extensions (they do it...why shouldnt i?)
8. try the other turo turo near the eki (oy tim promise is a promise!)
9. try one kind of oden in all the convenient shops and evaluate!haha.

if i get to do atleast half of my list before coming home, i can say i am completely fulfilled to leave Japan forever.

for everyone

During lunch today, I was in front of the giant tv screen in our cafeteria, with a big smile on my face. I bet the Japanese around me thought I looked stupid to be standing in the middle of the caf, looking at the tv screen like im standing in front of some hot celebrity.I may have looked stpid, bt I didnt really care! PHILIPPINE FASHION WEEK WAS ON OUR TV SCREEN! wah can you believe that? I was sooooooooo proud!

From the time I first set foot in this school, I already told myself I would like to change the image that the Japanese have of Filipinos. Dont getme wrong I have nothing against our entertainers, in fact I lookup to them for braving the cold cold cold cold Japanese people/environment just to help their family. anyway, my aim is to make our culture known to them. though our culture may seem to be a mixture of different influences, i believe that that is actually our charm. i want to make the butterfly sleeves known in the fashion industry, a general term like the kimono sleeve. well, im doing it one step at a time.

i was watching project runway on youtube earlier, and i was surprised to see the challenge on the Philippine terno. Remember the modern terno i made when i was in first year? the one made of kimono/jap cloth? well, i may not be as good as those designers, but im proud to say that i made the dress not because of any challenge/order but from my pure intention of showcasing or talent to the world. thats why i was quite sad to here about one girl's comments about the terno, well we may live in modern times, but we cant just simply forget about our culture right? its what brought us to wherever we are now. hehe. i dont know but ever since i came here i became more and more nationalistic. i guess i have come to discover the good points that we have as a nation.

anyway, again, ill be making a terno for my graduation piece. but this time it wont be modern anymore, i will make it in its traditional, classic serpentina cut. I will show them the elegance of our traditional dress.the bodice will be woven cloth made of silk, while th skirt will be different layers of pleated silk to show movement/volume. my vision is a butterfly, very light, elegant... beautiful. Im not sure If I can make it on or graduation show, but I really hope I do. This time, I dont want to be in the show just to be sikat but I really want to show them a piece of our cultre. I really hope and pray that I can make it to the show and make Filipinos proud of me. I may never be in the same ranks as Yohji Yamamoto, Kenzo Takada etc as graduates of my school, but I hope, in my own little way, being the first Filipino to enter this school, I may be able to show them the beauty of our culture.

WIsh me luck!

(the dress i made before)

for everyone

yesterday, for some reason, i had the lonely feeling i had 2 years ago. when i was lost, uncertain of what the future has in store for me. 2.5 years ago, an uncle once told me that my journey here in japan is just like being in a dark room. you open the door, unsure of whats inside, dimensions unknown. your heartbeat gets faster and faster, like your about to fall from the top of the rollercoaster. youre scared and excited at the same time. your right feet says enter, your left says stay. 2 and a half years ago, i was faced with the same decision. at that moment 3/4 of my body says "stay in the well lit room" while the 1/4 says "youre not a coward, just go!" call me crazy, mayabang or mapride, but yes i did enter that room. full of fears, full of uncertainties. its been 2 years and 7 months since i first set foot into that dark room. 2 years and  7 months... a truly unforgettable journey. there were ups, but most were downs. faces come, faces go. trembles here and there. smile. tears. laughter. looking back, it was a long, dragging telenovela. i think its interesting though. theres a comedic angle, a romantic twist, and lots of dramatic moments. i would love to watch it all over again. watch...but do it all over again? hmmmm. give me time to think about that. 2 years and 7 months and the room looks a lot different now. its 3/4 lit. i can see the corners. i know the dimensions. a few months to go and im about to say goodbye to this room, and enter a new one. being in this room taught me so many things, about myself, and what i am made of. it taught me to trust people, it taught me how to be open, it taught me how to appreciate my blessings, what i have and dream of what i still dont.

ive finally decided to leave this room on march 30 2009. i cant wait to close the door and lock it. the key however i will forever keep in my pocket. im not saying i will come back. but id like to visit once in a while. where to go next? honestly, i dont know. people know me as the girl with a well made life plan. and im sure they wont believe me when i say i dont know what ill do next. put up a store? maybe. go to the states? perhaps. be a bum? possibly. go back to manila? most probably.get married? muri. but honestly, im quite excited of that uncertainty. if japan taught me one thing, its that theres a big world in store for me. to discover, to know, to learn, to love.

of all these uncertainties, one thing is sure. im ready to leave japan.leave but i wont forget it.  ive met so many people here. people who've backed me up, made me smile, gave me inspiration to get going, i will not forget them. i may leave this place, but these people, these memories, pieces of experience, will forever be treasured in my heart.

i have 4 months left. still long enough for more drama, more twists and turns, but as of now, im inclined to leave. thus, the 4 months left... i will treasure and try to enjoy. i will make good use of it. to learn more...about myself. about this place. about this culture.

sounds like im home sick? yes i am. i miss friends who know me from the beginning of time. laughter that reaches your tummy until it hurts very bad.day dreaming with my girl friends.pity parties.... i miss home right now. this minute. maybe because i know its christmas and i dont see it anywhere here.

oh well, for all ive written. theres nothing to do now but wait. dream. anticipate.

for changes on my current plans,i'll keep you posted.

had our "design suit" / デザインスーツpresentation/show today. mine is quite simple but i think its cute naman, i like it without the jacket hehe. mas chic とおもいます. the jacket kasi is medyo lose e, pinagsabihan na ako ng teacher ko to double check my measurements, i told her tabain kasi ako hehe. look at the collar though, i made it extraordinarily long and wide para it will look like a scarf :)
btw,i learned their secret pala to being thin today! just wanna share, they call it the ソイジョイ生活/soyjoyseikatsu.they eat only i piece of soyjoy (134 calories) a day! wah. beat that! at buhay pa sila ok!

its me wearing the kimono for real! had a reseaerch trip with my whole class to kyoto and nara. actually its my 2nd time to go to kyoto already but this time, its quite a different experience. one, we didnt actually go to just tourist spots adn two it was literally work and research. we hardly had any time to take pictures like tourists. but it was interesting, i got to learn so many things about their culture, their religion and just being with them just gave me more reasons why i love being the filipino me :) haha. its been 2,5 years and im still an outsider, but this time, i really did try to blend in. its tiring and its fun, i even got to see their first national treasure, miroku bosatsu. a bosatsu is not a buddha yet but its training to be one in one thousand something years. haha. i dont remember. anyway we focused on art. history, architecture. it was really a different experience. i just realize its time to inhale and take in as much culture, come to think of it i only have 5 months left.
